Peter Wall Solutions Initiative: Funding for Innovative Ideas
To all faculty members at the Vancouver & Okanagan campuses and at affiliated institutions:
The Peter Wall Foundation and UBC have launched the Peter Wall Solutions Initiative (PWSI), a new program enabling
UBC researchers in all disciplines to engage community partners to develop practical solutions for societal problems.
Strategic funding will support innovative solutions to issues in areas such as sustainability, health care delivery, poverty alleviation,
economic policy, community wellness, diversity, natural resources, and other areas of significance. Qualifying projects should demonstrate measurable results within 1-3 years.
Projects must actively involve a partner from a community organization or end-user group to develop a measurable, research-based approach to a defined problem.
Working with external partners provides greater access to research results and ensures that end-users will be active contributors to the solution.
The PWSI is generously supported by an initial $3 million contribution from the Peter Wall Endowment to UBC.
“With its focus on results, the Peter Wall Solutions Initiative will offer a scope well beyond traditional research funding,”
says Dr. Brett Finlay, UBC Professor and Chair of the PWSI Advisory Board. “Our goal is that PWSI will make a real difference
to the people of Vancouver and BC, and serve as models for other communities throughout the country.”
