New NIH Conflict-of-Interest Requirements
FYI - Just heard this from a faculty member...

IMPORTANT: IF YOU ARE APPLYING TO NIH OR OTHER US PUBLIC HEALTH AGENCIES FOR THE NEXT DEADLINE, Immediate Action and responses are required

There are now additional US Federal regulations governing conflict of interest. So in addition to compliance with UBC’s Conflict of Interest Policy, all investigators who are applying for and/or receiving health research grants from the US must comply with the new procedure.

Our top priority is to ensure all UBC investigators can submit their grants by the next NIH deadline. Therefore, we must know who is applying so that we can send them the necessary information.

Please respond immediately to (helen.burt@ubc.ca) with the names of investigators, so we can work with them.

UBC NO LONGER OFFERS ACCESS TO COMMUNITY OF SCIENCE (COS)

Hello Everyone,

Apologies in advance for cross-posting. I just learned today that UBC Library and the Office of Research Services will be ending their joint-partnership in funding access to the Community of Science (COS). Access will end July 31. This means no free access to a number of COS's research support services (COS Funding Opportunities; COS Funding Alerts; COS Papers Invited; COS Scholar Universe; and COS Pivot, formerly COS Expertise).

I have been in contact with Teresa Lee, UBC E-Resource & Access Librarian, who made the announcement, and she welcomes comments about the decision, particularly from UBC research development personnel/grants facilitators. If any of you have comments about how this absence of this service will affect your job or other aspects of research infrastructure support, please send her an email at teresa.lee@ubc.ca Teresa will collect comments to forward to the Associate University Librarian for Collections Management so that if there is an opportunity to revisit this decision in the future, there is evidence to support another subscription.

I have already shared my concern over how the loss of COS's Research Funding Opportunities RSS service will remove a robust and valuable grant database that I often use to hunt down new research funding opportunities.

Thanks and best regards to all,

Robert

Hi Helen,

I just checked the CIHR website for the list of "funding related forms" (http://www.cihr-irsc.gc.ca/e/797.html). However, CIHR no longer seems to list items like budget module.

So I think the only way to access the budget module is to go into ResearchNet and select the funding opportunity you're interested in. Once you've entered "Period of Support Requested" in the "Enter Project Information - Project Details" section, then the budget template will be generated in the "Enter Budget Information and Supporting Documents" task.

Hope this helps.
